The Virginia Community Health Worker Association (VACHWA) would like to express our profound appreciation to our mentors, supporters, and loved ones who have accompanied us. The Association’s History

2014

The Virginia Community Health Worker Association (VACHWA) was founded in 2014. The original board designed the organization’s infrastructure, and a team of succession board members carried over the vision.

2018

In 2018, VACHWA conducted its first strategic planning and received its first grant from the Richmond Memorial Foundation, marking just a few of the many milestones achieved in two years of growth.

2020

In 2020, the Virginia Community Health Worker Association (VACHWA) was granted two state grants by the Virginia Department of Health for Innovation and Chronic Disease. These grants were allocated for the development of two important programs: the Ambassador Program and the CHW Toolkit. Our fiscal sponsors, including the Virginia Health District, Virginia Health Catalyst, and the Institute for Public Health Innovation, have been instrumental in supporting our vision and mission. The most significant achievement of the year was obtaining a 501(c)(3) status in June 2020. This milestone has paved the way for greater financial and budgetary responsibilities to further our mission.

VACHWA

The Virginia Community Health Worker Association (VACHWA) is led by industry professionals; who are committed to serving, developing and building their community through access to education and equity in public health.
