The Virginia Community Health Worker Association (VACHWA) is grateful to all our mentors, supporters, and loved ones with whom we have had the pleasure to share this journey. We will not include names, but YOU know who YOU ARE. The love and support we received have been overwhelming and needed, especially during those times of “struggle”. We acknowledge you because of who you are and how you made us feel.

The Virginia Community Health Worker Association (VACHWA) was created in 2014. The founding board designed the foundation for what we have now as the infrastructure of the organization. The vision was carried over by a pioneering team of succession board members.

In 2018, VACHWA conducted its first strategic planning and received the first grant from the Richmond Memorial Foundation. These and many more milestones were characteristic of two-year growth.

In 2020, the VACHWA received two more state grants from the Virginia Department of Health (Innovation and Chronic Disease) to develop the Ambassador Program and our CHW Toolkit. Our fiscal sponsors have been integral to the growth of our financial and fiscal responsibilities. Virginia Health District, Virginia Health Catalyst, and the Institute for Public Health Innovation supported our vision and mission. The highest milestone was becoming a 501 (c) 3 organization as of June 2020.

The Virginia Community Health Worker Association (VACHWA) is led by industry professionals; who are committed to serving, developing and building their community through access to education and equity in public health.
